Digital Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to universal access, assistive technology compatibility, and inclusive learning for all students, parents, and community members.

Conformance Status: Partially Conformant • Actively Targeting W3C WCAG 2.2 Level AA

1. Institutional Commitment

At Kasturi Academy and College, we believe education must be accessible to everyone without barriers. We design, develop, and audit our web applications actively targeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, striving to ensure our digital platforms provide an equitable, robust, and dignified experience for people with disabilities.

2. Core Accessibility Pillars

Contrast & Visibility

All body text and interactive elements are designed to satisfy a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against their backgrounds (and 3:1 for large text and UI components), tested across light and dark themes.

Touch Target Size

Mobile buttons, navigation toggles, and form inputs target the 44×44 pixel dimension, minimizing accidental taps and supporting users with motor challenges.

Keyboard Navigable

Core links, interactive tools, forms, and dialogs are designed for keyboard operation (Tab, Enter, Space, Escape) with visible focus rings.

Reflow & 200% Zoom

Content dynamically reflows without loss of information or horizontal scrolling when enlarged up to 200% or viewed on 360px mobile displays.

3. Screen Reader & Assistive Tech Support

We actively optimize our markup for modern screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack):

  • Semantic HTML5: Pages use logical header hierarchies (single <h1> per page followed by nested <h2> and <h3>), semantic landmarks (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <aside>, <footer>), and ARIA attributes where appropriate.
  • Descriptive Imagery: All primary institutional photos, campus maps, and faculty directories include alt text descriptions. Decorative icons are explicitly marked with aria-hidden="true".
  • Reduced Motion: We respect the prefers-reduced-motion system preference, suppressing continuous animations for users with vestibular sensitivities.

4. Assessment Methodology & Continuous Auditing

In alignment with W3C evaluation guidelines, our evaluation approach combines automated scanning with manual verification:

  • Automated Scanning: Automated CI sweeps using axe-core and Playwright across desktop (1440px) and mobile (360px–390px) viewports to catch structural, landmark, and programmatic defects.
  • Manual Keyboard & Contrast Testing: Hands-on verification of focus visibility, tab order, modal trapping, and color contrast calculations in both light and dark display modes.
  • Assistive Technology Sampling: Representative scenario testing with screen readers on key student journeys (admissions inquiry, visit scheduling, and notice lookups).

5. Known Limitations & Active Remediation Roadmap

While we continuously remediate our platforms, some areas are under active improvement:

  • Third-Party Components: Embedded third-party elements (such as Google Maps frames and YouTube video players) may present contrast or focus management constraints outside our direct control.
  • Legacy Examination Routines: Some historical exam routine notices and academic downloads exist as PDF documents from prior semesters that may lack complete semantic tagging. We provide textual schedules on notice pages as alternatives.
  • Touch Target Consistency: A small number of secondary links and legacy wing widgets are currently undergoing layout adjustments to ensure an uninterrupted minimum 44×44px bounding area across all mobile screen resolutions.

6. Feedback & Assistance

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of the Kasturi platform. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on any part of our website, or require academic materials in an alternative format (such as large print, audio, or plain text), please contact our accessibility coordinator:
